Conflicts of interest by physician researchers are addressed by Charles Ornstein and Ryann Grochowski Jones in "Double Dip: Doctors Paid to Advise, Promote Drug Companies That Fund Their Research" co-published on 3-25-14 by ProPublica and The Boston Globe. One encouraging note is that starting this fall such payments will have to be disclosed. A.W. Gaffney, about to become a full-fledged physician, contemplates the effects of prices on patient care. He analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of recent publications on the topic, along with his observation that some suggested solutions may not be helpful in major illness.
