MARSHALLESE IN OREGON SEEK HEALTH CARE

U.S. testing of nuclear bombs in the Pacific Islands from 1946 to 1958 exposed thousands of Marshalle to high risk of cancers and endocrine disorders. Many now live in the U.S., including Oregon, as permanent non-immigrants, who are ineligible for Medicaid or SSI. Helen Caswell covered a recent hearing on Oregon House Bill 2522, which would fund an Islander Health Coverage Gap Assessment Office as a first step toward attaining health care.
