Health Care for All Oregon Education Fund supports health care as a human right. Literature on the topic applicable to the U.S. is sparse. Although we focus on current news,  occasionally attention is given to older, overarching works.  One such piece is "Human rights in patient care: A theoretical and practical framework" by Jonathan Cohen and Tamar Ezer published in Health and Human Rights Journal on 12-10-2013. The scope is international. The authors conclude that human rights in patient care provides a framework to address abuses in health settings and to hold governments accountable for these. This includes human rights for both patients and for providers. The focus is on human dignity, not just patient rights in consumer transactions. They recognize that limits may be necessary due to available resources or compelling policy objectives. LEARN MORE
